Disney+ Removing The Majority Of Original Content On May 26 As Well As Many Hulu Originals And Catalog Titles

    The news of this purge broke courtesy @DisneyPlus_Actu on Twitter last week.

    This is the end of Disney+ as we know it and I no longer see it as a legitimate streaming service. It’s debatable that CEO Bob Iger’s cost-cutting and “surgical” strategy to “what they make” was his way of signaling that moving forward Disney+ will have original animated shorts, Marvel superhero limited series, Star Wars original shows, and… that’s it. Oh, but a price increase is on the way for the significantly smallest catalog (about to shrink a lot more) of any major streaming service. Drink up!

    Unsettling, and depressing. These removals that seem heavily slanted towards Disney+ are part of a 1.5 – 1.8 billion dollar savings he seeks in an attempt to bring The Walt Disney Company stock out of the toilet. Worked well for David Zaslav…

    Howard's removal is one of the most tone deaf decisions made by Bob Iger's team.

    Virtually all LGBT rep i eliminated days before Pride Month begins. The LGBT lyricist, Howard Ashman, whose legendary music will drive people to sing out loud during the brand-new The Little Mermaid movie opening the same week is having his documentary removed. How are these things not stopped? UPDATE: Howard has been saved, but the Pride Collection will still be decimated days before Pride Month.

    After this, there is really no reason to have an Originals tab on Disney+ anymore. In fairness, no other major streaming service has a tab. They should replace it with a Coming Soon tab or FAST channels tab.

    The Disney+ Originals hub is about to be completely emptied out.
