Every Disney Title Leaving Netflix In 2022 Revealed

Earlier this year, people started to notice expiration warnings appearing on Disney titles that were streaming on Netflix. Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders… could this really be happening? Yes, it did happen! We can confirm that these Marvel shows were supposed to leave Netflix in 2028 and 2029, but they left on February 28th, 2022.

Along with these Marvel series, Netflix lost Agents of SHIELD, Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell, 3 DisneyNature films, Tini: The New Life of Violetta, American Crime Story, Pose, American Horror Story, and Netflix Original, Soundtrack. All of these removals were well ahead of schedule and it set Disney back quite a bit.

During the Quarter 2 Fiscal Year 2022 Earnings Call on May 11th, CFO Christine Mccarthy revealed that Disney had taken 1 billion dollar revenue hit for “Contract License Early Termination.” In other words, Disney chose to pay a penalty and / or negotiated an out for content they wanted to stream on Hulu and Disney+.

Despite all of these removals, Disney did not fully exit Netflix. Believe it or not, they left 22 titles in Netflix’s clutches. We’re excited to share that we have obtained knowledge of when each title is scheduled to leave. It may surprise you.

It’s clear that Disney left the titles leaving in 2022 to exit naturally. It would have been a waste of money to renegotiate or pay off those titles when they’re leaving anyway. It makes sense Disney paid off the Defenders shows – 2028 and 2029 are too far and it’s clear Disney has plans for those characters.

Without further adieu, here are the 9 Disney titles leaving in the 2nd half of this year.

1) Dangal – Leaving Netflix June 21, 2022

Disney India film

2016

Dangal will likely head straight to the Disney Vault. Disney has not expressed interest in streaming international films in the USA. We could also see it head to Hulu under the Hotstar hub.

2) Young & Hungry– Leaving Netflix August 24, 2022

ABC Family (Freeform) Series

2014-2018

Due to Disney’s toxic strategy in the USA, this series will certainly move to Hulu. Except… thing are FINALLY changing. See: Glee, Alias, etc. Could it be on both?

3) Quantico– Leaving Netflix September 2, 2022

ABC Series

2015-2018

Quantico is probably heading straight to Hulu. We hope Disney chooses Disney+ or does a co-stream thing like they’re doing for Glee.

4) Jagga Jasoos – Leaving Netflix October 1, 2022

Disney India film

2017

As with Dangal. Jagga Jasoos will likely head straight to the Disney Vault. Disney has not expressed interest in streaming international films in the USA. We could also see it head to Hulu under the Hotstar hub.

5) Khoobsurat – Leaving Netflix October 1, 2022

Disney India film

2014

As with Dangal and Jagga Jasoos, Khoobsurat will likely head straight to the Disney Vault. Disney has not expressed interest in streaming international films in the USA. We could also see it head to Hulu under the Hotstar hub.

6) Sofia The First – Leaving Netflix October 8, 2022

Disney Junior series

2012-2018

This series is definitely coming to Disney+! The pilot film is missing worldwide, but the creator has expressed confusion about this and hopes that it will arrive when the series comes “home” in USA.

7) ABCD – Leaving Netflix November 1, 2022

Disney India film

2013

(Also on Hulu)

As with Dangal. Jagga Jasoos, and Khoobsurat, we don’t expect ABCD to stream on Disney+. It’s actually already streaming on Hulu under the Hotstar hub. WIll it leave both services?

8) ABCD2 – Leaving Netflix November 1, 2022

Disney India film

2015

As with Dangal. Jagga Jasoos, Khoobsurat, and ABCD, we don’t expect ABCD2 to stream on Disney+.

9) Arjun: The Warrior Prince – Leaving Netflix November 1, 2022

Disney India film

2012

As with Dangal. Jagga Jasoos, Khoobsurat, ABCD, and ABCD2, we don’t expect Arjun to stream on Disney+.

There you have it. A very odd bunch – 6 Disney India films and 3 series. Nothing more is scheduled to leave. There is the possibility that Disney could choose to renew these titles with Netflix, but that’s extremely slim. The Disney India films have a greater likelihood of that though we’d still only place that at a 10% chance. there is also the chance Disney could return to do another round of “early buyouts” but we wouldn’t bank on it.

What about 2023? Anything exciting?

You didn’t hear it from us, but:

Who’s that girl?

Who’s that girl?

.

As always, these dates have been added to our Expiration Page! It’s becoming so much more complete.

Are you looking forward to any of these titles leaving Netflix? Or are you a Netflix fan disappointed to lose something?

(It’s Jess.)
