As first revealed by Deadline, Isabela Merced has been tapped to play Juliet in 20th Century’s Rosaline, a comedic and revisionist take on Romeo & Juliet that has Kaitlyn Dever attached to star.
Originally produced at MGM, the film recently hit the market, and quickly became acquired by 20th Century Studios. The film will be produced by 21 Laps, Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen and directed by Karen Maine. Filming start date is currently unknown.

Based off the When You Were Mine novel, written by Rebecca Serle, Rosaline is a modern twist on the classic Shakespeare tale. We see “the most famous love story ever told” through the eyes of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline (Dever), a sharp but idealistic young woman—who happens to be Romeo’s recent ex. What begins as an attempt to foil the famous romance and win back her guy becomes a journey of self-discovery as she ultimately works to help get the star-crossed lovers together again.
This marks Isabela’s first work with Disney after having previously done multiple projects for Nickelodeon including Legends of the Hidden Temple (2016), 100 Things to do Before High School (2014), and Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019).
Will this film hit Disney+ or Hulu? Only time will tell.
