When Sonny With a Chance (2009) arrived on Disney Plus in April 2020, the spin-off So Random was inappropriately listed as Season 3. Tons of people had no clue it was on the service. After I reached out to them last summer about the issue they said they’d work on it. This spring, 1 year later, they informed they had finally gained approval to fix it and it would be fixed this summer. That day has finally arrived. I don’t know why it took a year to fix. My guess is since they had it added as season 3 they weren’t properly licensing it / paying dues so they had to rework contracts. Now the show is listed separately – just like it always has been to purchase or rent on VOD.
For those not familiar with the story – Sonny’s star, Demi Lovato left the series for personal reasons. After she left, instead of firing all her castmates, Disney gave them a new show. They decided to make the show Sonny and her friends were filming in Sonny With a Chance the show itself. So now, we were seeing the show they film as if we are viewers in their world. No more behind the scenes with cast or storylines – just musical guests and sketches by their “characters.” So Random was basically Nickelodeon’s All That, but on Disney Channel. Sadly it didn’t last.
Synopsis:
The spin-off to Sonny with a Chance, So Random! is a musical sketch comedy continuing some of the sketches on the original show while introducing new sketches with a new repertory cast.
